WHAT WE CARRY
What We Carry is a digital archive comprised of images of the largest objects a group of over 100 individuals carried while crossing the Williamsburg Bridge in November and December of 2020.
The archive consists of 100 polaroid images and corresponding documentation featuring my personal notes from each in-person interaction. I drew inspiration for this project after studying Barbara Iweins’s, KATALOG, Spencer Finch’s, Trying To Remember the Color of the Sky on That September Morning, and Brandon Stanton’s, Humans of New York. I believe that anyone who has commuted in a city via foot or bicycle has experienced the dilemma of what to carry on their person based on physical constraints. Ultimately, What We Carry serves as a timestamp, capturing the minutiae of New Yorker’s everyday lives as they move from place to place.
